Abstract
In the field study of soil fertility and in the investigation of nutrient deficiencies in developing areas experiments with fertilizers and manures are essential. The first need in such work is to discover what nutrients are needed leaving the optimum rates of application to be examined later. In the initial work we usually wish to obtain information on several factor" the most common being nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and lime. The effect of farm yard manure is frequently examined also, as this material often indicates the importance of factors other than those supplied by the fertilizers.
