Abstract
The very poor short rains did not lead to germination cf the weeds until very late and the resultant weed cover was very sparse.Weeding, however, has been carried out,a Towner disc narrow being the main implement used on the Research Station. The total rain fall for l950 was 25.10 iches. On rukera, the ordinary as opposed to the fork jembe was employed in order to cover the area rapidly, but It is hoped to roughen up the ground with a fork Jembe before the long rains. On this estate, desuckering and test spraying for Antestia has been carried out,the latter indicating no need for control measures.Despite rig.d precautions, some mealybug has been found and this is being treated by the use of Agrocide 3 dust round the base of the tree banding grease and treatment of suckers with methylated spirit. The construction of a water reservoir to serve the projected coffee factory has been started.
