Abstract
Livestock production in Sub-Saharan Africa is low due ti insufficient nutrients during the dry season. In Kenya, several indigenous legunme tree species are used and among these are Acacia seyal and Balanites aegyptiaca. Edible parts of these tree legumes were dampled at Mogotio and Emining divisions of Koibatek District in a study whose objective was to determine the nutritional values of the two species. The samples were analyzed for chemical composition and subjected to a digestiblitiy study using Dorper rams in a changeover design. The effects of the legumes on growth were evaluated by feeding growing lambs at 0, 10, 20 and 30% of total DM intake and Chloris gayana hay constituted the remaining amount.
