Abstract
Five field experiments are described in which insecticides were either applied to sisal transplants as a dust around the planting hole, or were poured into the centre of the plant after planting, or both aldrin, dieldrin, isobenzan and heptachlor all gave good control of weevil damage to the bole. fn one trial the insecticides halved the number of adult weevil feeding marks on the leaves. A single aldrin dust hole treatment at 0.5 kg. a.i./ha. was enough to give good protection of the transplants. There was some evidence that large transplant~ are less liable to suffer weevil damage to the bole than small ones.
