Abstract
The importance of camels m providing food security to pastoralists in Kenya as a whole has been stressed (Field, 1999). However, they still lag behind other livestock in understanding, promotion, research, development and funding. This paper briefly examines the performance of a herd of camels during both exceptionally wet conditions (so called El Nino) and the drought which followed (La Nina) and is still affecting much of Kenya's ASALs where camels are mainly found.
