Abstract
The question of rainfall probability and Reliability has received considerable attention Both in East Africa and elsewhere. General Methods are discussed in a number of papers, E.g. Glover and Robinson (1953a, 1953b), and A number of maps showing the reliability of Annual rainfall over East Africa have been Produced (Glover, Robinson and Henderson, 1954, Royal Commission Report, 1953-55, E.A. M.D., 1961). In addition, the reliability of Seasonal rainfall totals has been examined (Kenworthy and Glover, 1958), as has the probability Of getting any selected distribution of Rain month by month assuming the monthly Totals to be independent (Robinson and Glover, 1954) or not independent (Glover, Robinson And Taylor, 1955). The basic technique has Been applied to analyses of rainfall reliability In relation to crop yields, times of sowing and Harvesting (Evans, 1955; Manning, 1950; Dowker, 1963).
