Abstract
Tea is a permanent agricultural crop that plays an increasing role in the economy of Africa, and particularly in East Africa. In1965, East Africa produced six per cent of the world’s tea exports. By 1966 there were already39, 000 peasant farms engaged in tea production. It is estimated that by 1975 there will be a further major increase in tea acreage; in particular the smallholder' gardens will be increased
