Abstract
In the majority of countries where Pinus radiata D. Don has been introduced as a timber tree Diplodia die-back has proved to be a disease~ of some consequence. Indeed, in the Union of South Africa and in Southern Rhodesia the establishment of this species has been considerably restricted following damage from this disease. In Australia, New Zealand and North America, where the disease has been known from a comparatively early date [1, 4], it has been the subject of several detailed studies.
