Abstract
An observational epidemiological study was carried out to evaluate the use of trypanotolerance technology in a trypanosomosis endemic area of Kajiado District between January 2004 and July 2005, and comprised of two phases. First, the Orma boran (OB) bulls were voluntarily acquired from Kiboko Range Research Centre in Makueni District by Maasai pastoralists for breeding purposes. Once the farmers selected bulls based on physical characteristics that were appealing to them, the 14 bulls were transported by lorry to Magadi Division of Kajiado District and disbursed to their respective owners. The bulls body weight and condition score were monitored and their blood screened for trypanosomosis, anaplasmosis, babesiosis and ECF infections monthly for 21 months from November 2002 to December 2004.
