Abstract
An account of a preliminary investigation into the root development of pine, cypress and Eucalyptus transplants following planting in the field. The note describes how glass sheets can be used to observe the growth of new roots and new mycorrhizae, and gives information on the time lag before the plants produce new roots and their subsequent rate of growth downwards through the first foot of soil (i.e. through the planting pit).
