Abstract
The following observations are put forward in the hope that they may prove of interest and value to others. Having purchased 150 acres of coffee towards the end of 1936 I entered the ranks of the producers and, perforce had to learn something about agricultural methods. One of the first problems I confronted was connected with erosion and tillage. Luckily my coffee land was "dirty" had suffered (sic) from indifferent cultivation, too Shallow in fact but, in the main, represented possibilities as it had the undoubted benefit that it could grow grass and weeds and, hence, had some fertility.
