Abstract
Currently, the common method of controlling storage insect pests in Kenya is by the use of chemical dusts, sprays and fumigation. In earlier years lindane smoke bombs were used, but this is no longer a common method of pest control following the restriction in use of organochlorine compounds. Smoke bombs from other more environmentally friendly sources can be used to supplement the use of chemical sprays. However, new smoke preparations, like any other chemical formulation, have to be tested for their efficacy before they can be recommended for use in the storage environment.
