Abstract
"{'he rapid growth in worldwide demand for chemical fertilizers over the last three decades is now transforming into a problem which in future could have grave consequences to the ecolog1y and agricultural productivity. The pressure on arable land as a consequence of the rapidly increasing populations, especially in the developing countries, is encouraging un diminishing rates of deforestation to make farming activities. The resulting soil erosion and loss of productivity has necessitated increasingly high doses of if application of chemical fertilizers.
