Abstract
A study was carried out to investigate the suitability of sea urchin (D. setosum) stuff as a cheap alternative fish food. Mean standard and total lengths of male fish fed on spine muscle and shell particles were 76.3+6 and 94.7+7 mm respectively; their wet body weight was 13+2 g. The same parameters for the females were 67.8 ± 10 mm, 86 ± 12 mm, and 10.6 ± 5 g Male fish fed on fish food pellets soaked in coelomic fluid had a mean standard length of 88.8 ± 8 mm , a total length of 112.8 ± 8 mm and a wet body weight of 22.7 ± 3 g. For the females fed on the same diet, the parameters were 81.7 ± 3'mm, 99.3 ± 19 mm. and 17.2 ± 9 g. Growth increase for fish fed on spine muscles and shell particles were significant (PSO.OS) while the wet body weight increase was not.
