Abstract
Kenya is a democratic republic on the east coast of Africa (Figure 1). The country was a British colony until gaining its independence in 1963. It has a parliamentary system of government, with a president as head. Normally, elections are held every five years. Suffrage is universal over the age of 18. Since independence, the country has had remarkably stable political and economic continuity, at least relative to other African countries
