Abstract
A study has been made oi the factors affecting the surviv.al and growth oI seeds and seedlings of Entandrophragma utile (Dawe & Sprague) Sprague in Budongo Forest and Nyabyeya Nursery, Uganda o The viability of seeds was high from the time or s~ed-fal1 (December-January) to the start of the wet season (March-April). No chemical or light-controlled dormancy was found. Seeds germinated in 2-3 weeks in natural or artificial conditions when provided with adequate water. The seeds contained co 30% of fat by weight, which was utilized very slowly during germination under shade.
