Abstract
IN the semi-arid and arid zones of the world, water has been found in sand since the first thirsty creature scooped in a dry river-bed and found drinkable water seeping into his excavation. Green vegetation growing along dried-up water courses is also a sign that here is water somewhere in the sand or soil below the river bed. For an experienced per.ion who knows the local vegetation and landscape, it is fairly easy to tell almost exactly the depth of the water table and the salinity of the water.
