Abstract
Coffee Berry Disease (CBD) was detected for the first time in 1922 near Soy and Turbo in Western Kenya close to the border with Uganda (MacDonald, 1922).The disease spread south and eastward and by the late 1930's all high altitude coffee growing areas West of the Rift were affected (Rayner 1952) and at the end of 1960's all coffee growing districts in Kenya suffered serious crop losses due to CBD (Griffiths, 1970).Coffee Berry Disease, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum coffeanum Noack is a serious disease of Coffea arabica.Under favourable conditions for CBD infection the crop loss may exceed 80%.
