Abstract
In an analysis with four time periods and three seasons, no single estimator of central tendency is consistently useful, although the mean of logarithms is useful in twice as many cases as the simple average. Care has to be exercised when assumptions have to be made concerning homogeneity in rainfall statistics. Examples from various parts of East Africa indicate the usefulness of the parameters studied
