Abstract
A virus collected from lettuce near Muguga, Kenya, was identified on the basis of morphology and serology as lettuce mosaic virus (LMV). The virus is seed-borne and was presumably introduced into East Africa by this means. Tests on pyrethrum, sunflower and chrysanthemum indicated that these important crop species are not susceptible to LMV.
