Abstract
In Mexico, it is estimated that 30 percent of the 6.2 million ha of irrigated land is salt-affected. Salinity is considered one of the main constraints in irrigated agriculture. The most severe affected areas are located mainly in the arid and semi-arid zones in the northern part of the country. These problems were originated due to the poor management of the irrigation water (Fernandez, 1990; INIFAP, 1988).
