Abstract
An experiment on the control of sweet potato weevil, Cylas formicarius (F.), in Uganda showed that dipping the planting slips in a solution of 2 lb. actual DDT in eight gallons of water gave significant reductions in the percentage of damaged tubers, the numbers of weevils and the degree of damage. Spraying the plants at weeks J 0 and 16 at the rate of 2 lb. actual DDT in 24 gallons of water per acre had no significant effect. Neither treatment adversely affected yields. It is concluded that this reduction in tuber damage would be prolltable given yields in excess of 2-!- tons per acre.
