Abstract
Irrespective of the methods and the policies adopted .for dairy cattle improvement through breeding in various areas of East Africa, the ultimate aim of these programmes is to select and use animals with the highest genetic potential .for milk production. Evaluation procedures, for genetic selection assume that the records on •which selection is based have been 'adjusted for known environmental effects.
