Abstract
The two most important effects of traditional peasant cultivation methods in steep stream source valleys are likely to be an alteration in the streamflow regime and an increase in soil transport by the stream. The methods for detection of the first effect have already been established but there are, as yet, no generally satisfactory techniques for obtaining an integrated total of transport of suspended and saltating solids in streamflow.
