Abstract
It has long been appreciated that European cattle in the tropics are subject to grave disabilities, which in the course of a few generations may lead to a decrease in body-size and weight, heaviness of withers and shoulder, legginess, lightness of bone, staggyness of horns, a steady decline with successive generations in milk production, lowered fertility, an unthrifty condition of the skin, and a general proneness to suffer severely from what are usually regarded as' minor diseases and ailments. It is common to refer to these characters as manifestations of "loss of constitution".
