Abstract
Considerable interest has been shown in this tree from time to time as a source of edible fat. The tree, which belongs to the family Guttifer((occurs in great numbers in the evergreen forest of (he East Usambara Mountains of Tanganyika between 1,500 and 4,000 feet above sea level, its distribution extending to the wet, eastern slopes of the West Usambara Mountains and then, by discontinuous distribution, to the Unguru and Uluguru Mountains to the south. It is one of the commonest tree in the Amani district of East Usambara where it is known in Kishambaa as Mshambo or Mwaka.
