Abstract
The soils were treated for organic matter removal with H202 and subsequently dispersed with calgon. They were fractionated into three fractions a) clay «2~) b) 2-50n) c) sand (50-2000)1) • /, / I The minerals in the clay fraction were identified on the basis of patterns obtained from the following treatments a)' lfJ8 saturated and Mg'saturated plus solvation with ethlene gl~col b) K saturated and'K saturated plus heat treatment at 550 C for 12" hours. Differential Thermal Analysis (D. rE. A. ) was also carried: out on Mg saturated clays wquilibrated at 55% R. H. for 48 hours. For the quantitative analysis of the clay minerals, the method of iEheisen and Bellis (Nature 204 1228 - 1230 1964) was followed. The data is given in the appendix.
