Abstract
Kenya is at an interesting position with regard to livestock marketing. The demise of the livestock marketing division and Kenya Meat Commission happened some time ago and the current somewhat unstructured marketing system has been in place for many years. "- Currently Kenyan policy makers are engaging in a debate about the degree to which the old systems should be revived or whether that time has passed and new structures based on improving the current marketing system should be developed. The fact that there is currently debate and proposed interventions should be taken as a healthy sign, as the current interest in livestock marketing contrasts with the neglect the marketing system has received for the most part since the demise of the livestock marketing division and the Kenya Meat Commission.
