Abstract
With exception of 2 animals, all the animals in the group vaccinated with the Tiper T 1 freeze dried vaccine and challenged 6 months after vaccination had serological response during the challenge period. With the exception of 3 animals, all the animals in the group vaccinated with Tl broth culture vaccine and challenged 6 months later developed CF antibodies. Four animals vaccinated with the Tl broth culture vaccine had CF antibody titres during the trial carried out 15 months after primary vaccination. Twelve of 15 animals vaccinated with Tiper Tl freeze dried vaccine and challenged 15 months after primary vaccination had CF antibody titres during the trial. Nineteen of 25 control animals in the 15 months trial had serological response. No CBPP lesions were present in the animals vaccinated with either Tiper Tl freeze dried vaccine or Tbroth culture vaccine and challenged 6 months after primary vaccination. Twelve of the control animals in the 6 months trial died of other causes while the remaining 10 animals were killed 6 weeks after the onset of the CF antibody. M. mycoides was recovered from 28 of 35 control animals. Four animals which had been vaccinated with Tl broth culture vaccine and challenged 15 months later had CBPP lesions at post-mortem examination. Seven of 15 of the animals vaccinated with Tiper T 1 freeze dried vaccine had CBPP lesions at post-mortem examination. Eleven of 25 control animals in the trial carried out 15 months post-primary vaccination died of CBPP and 4 animals were killed in extremis.
