Abstract
It is claimed by some of tho farmers in the Abor8orn district that the fire which swept through the fire-exclusion. area in. July 19t,·6 was a particularly fierce and hot one. However, I dis used the matter with Mr. Venning and several other of tho farmers and, though some of them were definitely convinced that tho fire had been a very hot one yet except for one or two isolated places? the vegetation did not shew any evidence to confirm this, It is felt that one of the reasons for tho assertion that the fire was fierce was that it appears to have been lighted in many different places moro or less simultaneously so that most of the farmers were seriously 8xGTcised in trying to protect their properties and many of them were unable to muster enough beaters in time to combat it adequately in several directions at once.
