Abstract
During the last three months of 1945,monthly roastings for civilian consumption, kept very close to the monthly average of 1,425,000 bags.In January, however, they jumped to 1,858,000 bags. There are various explanations of this improvement, such as the larger quantity of coffee becoming available as a consequence of the heavy purchases made under the subsidy plan. Then,we hear that the supply of containers, tins, etc., is more plentiful, so that many of our roasters have been able to stock up~ Finally, the fact that over seven million individuals have been released from the armed forces since last September, and have swollen the ranks of civilian consumers, also has had an important influence.
