Abstract
Coffee can be propagated either sexually (through seed) or asexually through vegetative propagation.Since most commercially grown Arabica Coffee cultivars are self fertile and rarely outcrossed i.e sufficiently true breeding, multiplication by seed has been the standard practice. Large scale clonal propagation has been considered in Arabica Coffee hybrids because of the hybrid nature of the disease resistant genotypes developed and because of the slow and expensive seed production programme. This would ensure trueness to type. This paper reviews the various methods of vegetative propagation (VP) and their application to cultivar Ruiru 11 which is Coffee Berry Disease (CBD) and Leaf rust resistant.
