Abstract
THE object of this modification is to introduce flexibility into the disc pulper and thereby (a) pulp a wider range of cherry sizes satisfactorily and (b) reduce pulper nip damage. Flexibility in the pulping of a wider range of cherry size is achieved by replacing the cast iron pulping ridge on the plough and inserting a piece consisting of 16 nylon fingers backed by a flat piece of rubber the tension of which is adjustable by a screw. Each finger is thereby able to operate independently and the pressure exerted by the fingers on the cherry between them and the disc face is adjustable. In addition, the dis1 ~l.1ce of the fingers from the disc is adjustable within wide limits independently of the breast- channelwall adjustment.
