Abstract
Animal feed in developing countries has become an expensive input in production of the essential animal protein. This is mainly due to the fact that the cereals which are the major ingredients in animal feed rations constitute the staple for most people in developing countries. As such use of cereals in animal feed ration formulations is an expensive and inefficient way of utilizing such food ingredients. Production of animals has therefore tended to be mainly through grazing, without any supplementation with concentrates. Where formulated rations must be provided such as in pigs and poultry production, the resulting "products tend to be very expensive, and the industry unstable due to unfavorable production economics of the raw materials.
