Abstract
The African armywonn is the larva(caterpillar) of the night flying moth (Spodoptera exempta) which in large numbers causes considerable damage to grasses which include maize, rice, millet, sorghum, ref, wheat and sugarcane. It has a habit of appearing in vast numbers and assuming a gregar)us matching behavior (this means they move together in one organized group) in search of new fields after it has eaten its immediate food supply.
