Abstract
Some problems related to water stress in Coffre arabica L. TIere studied both in the glasshouse and in the field. Growth was found to be reduced by soil water s tress and enhanced by increased soil nitrogen and potassiwil. S -~oma tal apertures? measured by the the method 01 infiltration into the leaf of mixtures of i sopropanol and distilled water were found to be closely related to soil moisture content but not to soil nitrogen and potasium, in pot experiments. Nitrogen fertilizer modified such t hings as chlorophyll contents soluble proteins, bound water, level of ATY, leaf water saturation deficits and stomatal frequency in such a way to suggest that nitrogen might increase the drought resistance of the plants.
