Abstract
The average annual rainfall in the District of 500 to 1800 mm per year would seem to be quite high , but in fact it is too unreliable in most parts (see Maps 17.0.1 and 17.0.2) , particularly in the centre of the District. The wetter zones near the border also have serious limitations: in the Sheep and Dairy Zone of the Upper Highlands , UH 1 (see Map 17.0.3), cropping possibilities are poor apart from oats, potatoes and vegetables
