Abstract
Fungicides must be applied at the recommended rates for effective disease control. Excessive spray materials may not only injure the crop but is wasteful and costly; on the other hand, inadequate spray material may not give good control and in most cases may worsen the disease situation. Either of the above cases has been common to most of the smallholders due to lack of weighing facilities. To alleviate this,a simple method of weighing fungicides for use with knapsack sprayers, employing shoe polish tins (KIWI) has been designed. Table 6 indicates how many level KIWI tin fuls (small, medium and large) of each fungicide are required to be put in a twenty (20) liters 'debe' to give the correct rates of application.
