Abstract
The year 1953 will be remembered as one during which Emergency conditions prevailed, for the visit of a Royal Commission which concerned itself mainly with problems affecting the African lands, for the one-man Commission, in the person of Mr. L. G. Troup, who reported on' problems and conditions affecting the development of European agriculture and for the grant of £5,000,000 by H.M_ Government to intensify the development of African agriculture, plans for the utilization of which were drawn up by Mr. R. J. M. Swynnerton, Assistant Director of Agriculture, towards the end of the year.
