Abstract
Potassium permanganate has been widely used, particularly in Africa and India, for the prevention of damping off in seedlings in forest nursery seed beds. In Kenya, a "pink" solution of the salt is often applied regularly to the seed bed as a preventive for damping off, and in the event of a serious attack, this solution is strengthened until it is "almost black", in order to check the spread of the disease.
