Abstract
Intensification of coffee production implies taking more crop out of unit area of land.Nutritionally,this involves greater removal of nutrients,which must mean greater input of finance in terms of fertilizer.As the whole object of such an exercise is not only to produce the same crop on a fraction of the land area but also to maintain or even improve profitability,it becomes essential to have information on aspects such as the following: a. Fertilizer needs of the crop, including optimum levels. b. The effect of plant population on fertilizer responses. c. The effect of coffee variety. d. Factors affecting the efficiency of fertilizers, for example type of fertilizer,placement and time of application. e. Methods of determining fertilizer needs.
