Abstract
The production of world food supplies is largely dependent upon the efficient management and rational use of the soil system, in relation to the crops grown for economic production. In Africa as in many other areas, traditional methods of soil management are being superseded by new technologies, in response to the increasing demands for food and materials produced by a growing population and developing internal and international trade.
