Abstract
Results from energy balance work and food intake studies on Bos taurus, Bas indicus and cross-bred animals have been very briefly summarized. Food intake predictions modelled on A.R.C. standards but based on results obtained locally are suggested. Probable intakes of metabolizable energy by local and imported cattle have been calculated from these data. These intakes can be compared with the metabolizable energy requirements of beef cattle for different levels of productivity.
