Abstract
Treating part of the boundary of an area of weevil-infested sisal with dieldrin applied by a tractor-drawn mist-sprayer did not affect the number of weevils captured by split-bole traps in the adjacent area of newly planted sisal. Split-bole traps around the perimeter of small nurseries intercepted weevils moving into the nurseries and reduced the level of damage by about 60 per cent. Spraying split-bole traps with solutions of dieldrin, diazinon, or dicrotophos did not reduce the number of weevils captured, though there was some evidence of a reduction when they were dusted with aldrin.
