Abstract
There are several insect and bird pests associated with monocropping of sunflower, maize, beans or soya bean in Kenya. This could be curtailed by intercropping practices which simultaneously reduces infestation levels and enhances productivity per unit area. In an effort to generate information that could be useful in integrated management of their pests, the main factors investigated were the effects of intercropping sunflower, maize, bean and soya bean on early colonization by crop pests and their natural enemies. Other studies involved assessment of effects of intercropping on density and diversity of insect pollinators, damage by the avian pest brimstone canary Serinus sulphuratus on sunflower and determination of Land Equivalent Ratios (LERs) that were most productive
