Abstract
The basic concept underlying drip irrigation method is to supply the amount of water needed by the plant within a limited volume of the soil as often as needed: o Water is applied close to plants so that only the part of the soil volume in which the roots develop is wetted. o Water is applied frequently (1-3 days) and therefore providing favourable moisture levels in which plants can flourish. o Drip irrigation can achieve 90-95% efficiency compared to 60-70% in high management furrow and sprinkler systems.
