Abstract
A 2.4 hectare grazing experiment is described in which liveweight gains were measured from Small East African Zebu steers grazing ley and natural pasture over sown with Stylo respectively. The results showed that although higher animal production (462 kg/ha/annum) was obtained from planted pasture than from improved natural pasture (357 kg/ ha/annum), the improved natural pasture offered higher profit margin. The practical implication of the results to range improvement and beef production is discussed.
