Abstract
In East Africa water is often a limiting factor in obtaining high yields of maize and sorghum's. The crops may be on good, well manured soils, but, if they do not get rain at the right time, or if the soil does not hold sufficient water to maintain normal growth throughout the drought period, yields may be low.
