Abstract
For years the Coffee Research Station, Ruiru (Jacaranda) has been producing coffee seed to meet the demands of the coffee growers. Last year with the lifting up of ban on new planting in Kenya the demand for seed became so high that those who had not obtained authority from the Coffee Board of Kenya in time to purchase Seed from Jacaranda were disappointed. Some have gone as far as raising seedlings from their own seeds, partly through disappointment and partly because 'of cost involved in purchasing seed from outside. This article is written mainly to bring to the attention of those who are producing seed privately that it is not only an illegal practice but is not in the interest of the famed coffee industry of Kenya.
