Abstract
An "in-contact" challenge trial, using 16 cattle vaccinated with the Tl strain broth vaccine against contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBP'p) and 16 .control animals was carried out two years after primary vaccination. Twelve' of the control animals developed CBPP and on post-mortem examination had typical lesions of the disease, from which Mycoplasma mycoides Jlar. mycOides (M. mycoides) was isolated. Three control animals produced complement fixing (CF) antibody but when examined post-mortem had no visible lesions, and one evinced no response to the challenge. Ten of the vaccinated animals gave no clinical response to the challenge. Six vaccinates produced CF antibody and of these five had small sequestra from which M. mycoides was isolated when examined post-mortem.
